House Guest

Finally, my balikbayan guest from San Jose, California arrived!  You have no idea how much preparation I did.  General cleaning of the house, we even use farmhouse stool to reach those ceiling, got some groceries to refill the refrigerator and  stocks for personal hygiene, and the like.

Today is his 3rd day and he’ll only stay 7 days more.  It’s kinda short visit after 28 years of leaving Philippines.  Anyways his primary purpose is to attend his high school reunion. :)

Having a house guest is quite hard especially if the person is not close to you.  You know, feels like a stranger even you know the person.  You’re worried that he might not like the food that you served.  Things like that.  But thank God that Tito Niel is not choosy.  He eats whatever I cook. :)

Pacman Did It Again

The first Boxing Athlete who won 7 titles in different weight division… That is Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao!  Manny made us Filipinos famous again after winning the fight against Miguel Cotto, the boxing champ of Puerto Rico.  Manny arrived with a heroe’s welcome in Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) together with his team and family.  Inspite of the big amount that he is earning from it (I mean hundreds of thousands or even millions US dollars), Mommy Dionisia requested Manny (in tears and plead) to retire from boxing.  Because she’s already worried that he get hurt seriously on the next fight.  In my opinion, Mommy D was right!  He already made a history and he won’t be forgotten anymore by sports enthusiasts all over the world.  How about changing sports Manny?  How about going to Myrtle beach golf and learn the craft? In this sports you can retire in old age without getting hurt.  Right Mommy D?

I’m always at home whenever I watch Manny’s fights.  But this time, I was able to experience to watch at the mall.  I went to Robinson’s Metro East with my high school friend MetMet and discovered that they were airing the fight in a big screen thru a projector.  We watched and became teary eyed whenever the crowd applauses and shouting for Manny.   People now are expecting a Pacquiao vs. Mayweather fight.  Do you think it will pushed through?

Trip to Baguio City

Summer Capital of the Philippines.  This is Baguio City!  I can’t count how many times I’ve been there since I was 12.  Love to go there because of the beautiful scenery (I am a nature lover) and cold climate.  But there is one thing I haven’t tried yet until now… the horseback riding!  I don’t know, I wanna try it but I have always a thought that the horse can’t carry me. (hehehe).  The last time I went there was in January 2008 with my balikbayan relatives, friends and family.

I was able to see Mines View Park again.  There’s this attraction… to take pictures with a St. Bernard dog, a horse and  an Igorot costume.  I’m sure this horsetaker has a lot of horse supplies for his pet horse for he gains a lot from him.

I won’t ever get tired of going to Baguio City because for me this place is the best place to chill.

Swine Flu in the Philippines

Breaking News (ABS-CBN’s Bandila): We now have the first case of alarming Swine Flu or A(H1N1) virus.  It was from a  child who arrived last May 19, 2009.  The child and parents came from USA and Canada. After two days he/she was rushed to the hospital because of high temperature, colds and throat problem.  The doctor confirmed that he/she got the said virus.  The child’s identity was not mentioned for privacy purpose.  Department of Health (DOH) is now giving Tamiflu to all family members and trying to contact all the people the child had mingle with including the passengers of the airplane where they boarded.  I just hope it is the first and last case of the said influenza.

News Update: 05.24.2009

Good News: The child already recovered from the flu only with a little sore throat left.

Bad News:  There’s the 2nd case of Influenza A(H1N1) virus, which came from a 50-year-old woman who arrived from Chicago Illinois USA last May 20.   The following day, she went to a hospital for checkup for having slight flu and cough.  DOH confirmed that she has Swine flu.
